All new first-year students are guaranteed university accommodation when applying on or before the 1st September. The University of Leicester has a diverse portfolio of accommodation, from purpose-built residential buildings to converted Edwardian houses, across our two sites The Village and The City.

The Village

The Village is a self-contained student community approximately 2 miles from the main campus. The Village is made up of purpose-built accommodation buildings and large converted houses with social spaces, sports facilities, study rooms and food outlets on site. The Village is made up of New Undergraduates and Undergraduate Returners (students that have chosen to return to university accommodation after their first year).

Most students choose to either purchase a bus pass for the University Shuttle Bus or cycle to university.

The City

The City is a made up of a variety of blocks close to the University campus. All the sites are within walking distance of the University campus and city centre for access to study spaces, sports facilities and food outlets. Each accommodation also has its own social space! The City is made up of New Undergraduates, Undergraduate Returners, Postgraduates and Mature Students. But you’ll always be split into flats with other people on the same pathway as you.

Most students choose to walk from their accommodation with The City blocks being around 10 minutes’ walk from campus.

Residence Life

We have a dedicated Residence Life team who support your transition into university and run regular events to make sure you feel at home and make friends.

Support

Coming to Leicester to study might be your first time living away from home. We know you'll have an amazing and memorable time whilst staying in our accommodation. Our Residence Life Team is here to provide a safe, supportive and welcoming environment from the moment you arrive. This is what makes living in halls different from living in a shared house or private accommodation.

We appreciate student life is about independence but that doesn’t mean you won’t need a little help sometimes. All members of the Residence Life Team in halls are all trained to provide advice and support on a huge range of issues. This includes physical and mental health, fees and registration, accessibility, careers, mitigating circumstances and much more!

Students experiencing problems don’t need to wait for a visit from us to speak to someone. Call, email or drop-in to your site reception any time day or night. If you’re experiencing a problem or are concerned about another student, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Events Programme

Our Residential Advisers are responsible for running regular events and activities to make sure you feel at home and make new friends in accommodation. These range from cinema nights and coffee nights to parties and summer festivals. We even offer the chance for you to learn new skills (such as in our weekly cookery classes) and provide opportunities for volunteering and part-time work to enhance your CV. Check out all the upcoming events in halls on our Residence Life website at browzer.co.uk/le.

Support Services
From the moment you get here, there are lots of resources to guide and support you throughout your time with us. You can find out more about support services at the University at le.ac.uk/wellbeing

Get In Touch
If you need help, contact us anytime 24/7 at your site reception, by email at accommodation@le.ac.uk or by phone at +44 (0)116 252 2428.

Residential Advisers
Our Residential Advisers are current students that work with us in accommodation to welcome you, provide peer support and create a student community by organising social events to make sure that you feel at home.

An Award-Winning Service
Our Residence Life service is award-winning, including a national award for the Best Residence Life Initiative, a Residential Adviser of the Year award and being shortlisted for Outstanding Support for Students in the UK Times Higher Education awards.

Making an Application

Register for an accommodation account to make an application. The admissions office will let you know when it’s time to apply. Apply before the 1st September of your year of entry and you’ll be guaranteed a space in accommodation.

Once you’ve sent off your application, we’ll allocate you to a room. We read over each application in person to make decisions, checking all your preferences and application notes. None of our room allocations are automated so make sure you put any requests you have in your application notes for the allocations team to see!

When you receive your accommodation offer, we’ll send you an email to let you know. You can review your offer and decide whether to accept or reject it. You’ll usually get 5 days to make your decision. When you accept the offer, you’ll need to check the contract and make the £250 pre-payment. If you decide you want to reject your offer, you should contact us first as we may be able to change your offer to something that suits you better, that way there’s no need for you to reapply.
